Giuliani said in New Hampshire on Monday:

"Do I think the mission overall in Iraq is the correct one, I think without a doubt it is," the former New York mayor said at Insight Technologies, which makes tactical weapon lights and laser systems for the military.

With two-thirds of Americans thinking the war is and was a terrible idea how can Rudy think this helps him? The same way he thinks that this is an example of political wit:

"This is the world we live in. It's not this happy, romantic-like world where we'll negotiate with this one, or we'll negotiate with that one and there will be no preconditions, and we'll invite (Iranian President Mahmoud) Ahmadinejad to the White House, we'll invite Osama (bin Laden) to the White House," Giuliani said.

"Hillary and Obama are kind of debating whether to invite them to the inauguration or the inaugural ball," he added.

First, watch it without the audio to appreciate how strange is the crazy bug-eyed thing that Giuliani can't keep himself from doing.

Then, view it again for the content. King allows Giuliani to go unchallenged on the most ridiculous of statements.

Giuliani claims that Bush's mission now is the same as Bush's mission when the war began, namely that...

...the goal, the mission in Iraq is the safety and security in Iraq. And of course, the end purpose of that is so we can have an ally against Islamic terrorism.

Really? I remember the reason being to protect the United States from Iraq's weapons of mass destruction, mushroom clouds, etc.

I also recall that Saddam was never a comrade of Bin Laden and company and was, in fact, viscerally opposed to and threatened by Sunni fundamentalists. In addition, of course, he hated Iran and it's Shiites. That's why Reagan and Cheney supported Saddam in the 80s.

It can be reasonably asserted that on September 12, 2001, Saddam Hussein might very well have been our best Middle Eastern ally against Islamist terrorism. And it goes without saying that Iraq under Saddam was "safe and secure."

Giuliani then reverts to his default position: If he can clean up Times Square he can clean up Iraq.

KING: Define success. When you say safety and the like, that is subjective, right? We might say we'll never be successful. It will take 100 years until you're totally successful. How define it?

GIULIANI: That's what they used to say about -- Larry, that's what they used to say about crime in New York, right? We'd never be able to reduce it.

Maybe he can lease Iraq to Disney.
